Bay Registered Anglo-Arabian Mare
Markings: Star. Snip.
Summer was a spoiled horse prior to coming to Horse Sense and needed retraining when she arrived. She would back up very fast when she did not want to do something, quite the stubborn mare! She has done some endurance racing, and she does dressage tempi changes. She is smooth and very responsive to ride. Summer loves to jump, and has a youthful personality making her a favorite of many riders. She is also a broodmare and produces tall elegant foals.
Bay Part-Bred Arabian Gelding
Maverick was on his way to the meat plant as no one could control him. He was given to Sonya by another stable that knew she could re-train him. Maverick had been abused and mishandled and would rear, spin and sweat, and shake profusely. His fear of being ridden made him dangerous. He was a very nervous and sensitive horse, but yet, he was not mean. After months of doing slow calm work Maverick started trusting the training process and his high energy was directed to endurance racing where he excelled. He was one of the top 50 mile horses in Alberta, with many Best Condition awards. Maverick has also done 100 mile rides in Saskatchewan and Alberta. Maverick loves to jump and do gymkhana as he’s very quick, athletic and very balanced with a heart of gold. He has a rocking chair canter and would canter for hours if you let him. Maverick is a hard keeper due to his age and lack of teeth. He gets a special diet of food that has to be soaked in water so it is easy for him to eat.
Grey Arabian gelding
Reno is an older gentleman who is great for anyone nervous. He is very quiet and prefers to be quite lazy. This demeanor makes his one of our babysitter horses. He needs a firm hand and leg so riders do learn to become assertive. He drives with Freckles pulling the Cinderella carriage and has helped new horses learn to drive in a pair. His easy going nature allows other horses to do the work when pulling the carriage. Reno never runs away from going to work for lessons, he is always happy to have someone catch him and get him treats. Reno helps with ponying young horses, and likes smaller jumps.
Flea-Bitten Grey Arabian Mare
Freckles was a spirited, very nervous, explosive spooky horse that was bought at an auction by a fellow that did not want her to go for slaughter. He called Sonya to see if she could help turn her around. Freckles was scared of everything and would jump sideways so quickly that staying on was a challenge. With a lot of confidence building and time, Freckles turned into the quiet lesson horse she is now. She was one of the better jumpers clearing 3’3 with ease, pulls the Cinderella carriage and has done well at endurance racing. Freckles always nickers at you when you dismount. Due to arthritis Freckles does occasional lessons and trail rides but enjoys a lessened workload.

Sonya picked Terra out of a herd of 70 horses to add to her breeding program as a broodmare. Terra had lived out on pasture for years in Saskatchewan and done nothing under saddle. Sonya noticed her calm quiet disposition and started her under saddle. She was so quiet that after 10 days of riding she was tried out in the lesson program with experienced riders... and Terra was a star. Her easy going nature and very smooth canter is great for beginner riders. Terra likes to move the giant ball and will canter and push it. Terra recently learnt to drive and help pull the sleigh with Star. Terra has produced some excellent foals from Knights N Black Satin that are very tall and correct.
Chestnut Registered Arabian Mare
Also picked out of a herd of 70 horses, Caprice turned out to be Terra’s daughter. Caprice also had no training and lived wild and free on a pasture in Saskatchewan. After producing a foal and being weaned, Caprice was trained under saddle. She also has an easy going nature, but only respects assertive riders under saddle. Caprice, like her dam Terra, has a very smooth flat trot and canter making it easy for beginners to ride. She likes to trick her riders to make them think she’s lazy, but Caprice loves to run barrels and do gymkhana events and can get very quick times! Caprice is also a broodmare and has some beautiful babies that are just starting under saddle.

Bay Registered Arabian Gelding
Markings: Star, socks on all legs
Star is another horse that was referred to Sonya for retraining as he was too much for the owner to handle. He was a rearer and would pull when tied up. He was also very herd bound and would spin to get rid of the rider so he could go back to his friends. All of that was corrected with a firm but kind hand, and now Star looks for people to come and catch him. Star has done endurance racing and is a consistent top 5 horse. He has a bouncy trot that helps riders to learn the posting or rising trot easily. He enjoys cattle penning and sorting and has even worked buffalo. For an Arabian he is quite cowy! Star can also jump 3’ and likes gymkhana. He looks very flashy driving a cart and has taught many riders to drive and enjoy horses in a new way. He pairs up with Terra when pulling the sleigh in winter. He nickers when riders dismount.
White Appendix Mare
